What is Belize QRP?

The Qualified Retirement Program (QRP) is one of the Belize government’s latest and most appealing programs designed to stimulate local development. QRP allows qualified individuals to permanently live, retire, and relax in Belize.

Once accepted into the QRP, you will gain a permanent Belize residency status and enjoy many benefits granted by the Belize Retired Persons Incentives Act, including

  • import duty and tax exemption for personal use during the first year of acceptance

  • Tax exemption on all foreign (outside of Belize) income

  • Legal permission to purchase land for residential use

  • Dependent benefits

Who Qualifies For QRP?

Any U.S. citizen 45 years or older, including their spouse and children under eighteen, qualifies for QRP as long as they are the beneficial recipient of a retirement income of $2K monthly or $24K annually generated from a source outside of Belize.


After submitting your application, you’ll need to pass a security screening and provide a written undertaking to deposit the requisite amount in a bank, credit union, or licensed financial institution in Belize.
You must also remain in Belize for a minimum of 30 consecutive days annually to maintain your QRP status.

Application Requirements

To apply for Belize QRP, you’ll need the following documents.

  • Completed and signed application form and dependent application form

  • Birth certificate

  • Marriage certificate (if applicable)

  • Police record

  • Passport pages and two passport photos

  • Proof of Income

  • Bank Statement certifying Retirement Income

  • Written Undertaking of Deposit to Financial Institution in Belize

  • Medical Certificate
